Members program_insect
I had an MBP from 2006 and although it was beefy enough to handle fairly busy Live sessions, it would get extremely hot and the fans would kick in and get really loud. I found this extremely annoying and it ended up being a major obstacle for me. Anybody using one of the new MBPs for heavy softsynth/DAW work? How's the heat/noise situation? Members Binkeys
i'd like to know the answer to this as well. I have a new MacBook Pro and am toying with the idea of selling my Dual 2.0GHz Power PC G5. The G5 is noisy and if the laptop could handle recording (obviously with additional external audio and sample drives), then I could get rid of the G5, make a few dollars back, and quiet down my project studio all at once. Members program_insect
If you have a new MBP already, can't you just, you know, try it out?
Members Binkeys
I could, but I'd need to buy two external drives and install all of my programs/sample libraries on one, which would take a lot of time. So, I'm hoping someone can give some useful information before I go to the effort.
Members program_insect
Fair enough. Generally speaking, have you noticed whether your MBP gets hot or loud while doing CPU intensive stuff?
Members Binkeys
I haven't used it for any CPU intensive stuff yet. The MacBook Pros tend towards the warmer side in general.
