evening all,

i've got two marshall 6100 heads. a '96 6100LM with 5881's and a '93 6100 with EL34's.

i prefer the EL34's over the 5881's. but its not that big a difference. but i really like the 6100's 3rd channel a lot more than the 6100LM's.

i know that you can get the 6100 modded up to LM specs, so i presume you can go the other way too. i'm not bothered about the power section, but i'd really like to "un-lead mod" the 3rd channel.

i've got no problems with a soldering iron. i just dont really know where to begin in the maze in the 6100.

There was a thread a while back on what to change to do the LM mod. Not sure who had the info.

Most people on the 30th anniversaries like the EL34's in the amp better than the 5881's. The LM mod in general is not thought of as an improvement.

exactly. i still dont know why marshall felt it needed more gain. even with the boost switch disengaged on the non LM model, there's still more than enough gain. why on earth would you need more??
