Members Unfed
http://soundcloud.com/jbuonacc/cortisol-ntrq did this track last week for a Battle of the Bits compo. the whole thing is written and recorded on the original 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System using the new native tracker software call NTRQ. http://blog.ntrq.net/ it's actually a song that i wrote about ten years ago, using a Juno-106 and running Cubase on the Atari. i just plugged the notes into NTRQ and changed a few things. it's a bit rushed, there was a deadline to meet and i hadn't had much time to work on it. i'll be going back and trying to refine it a bit in the future. very interesting working on the NES, you need to be pretty resourceful due to the strict limitations of the hardware as the sound parameters are quite limited. Members scud133
how did you record the output of the NES? sounds really cool btw. i had no idea the system had that many varied sounds in it. sounds way better than any game theme song

Members Unfed
ahh, thanks! it was recorded straight mono from the A/V output on the NES into my UltraLite. i run the software on the NES using the PowerPak cartridge, available from RetroZone here: http://www.retrousb.com/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=34 the synthesis options on the NES are quite limited and a bit frustrating at times, even compared to something like the C64 or the Game Boy. still, it's capable of a pretty broad range of sounds. i've just barely touched on a lot of what you can do with it in this example, it's pretty amazing how much you can do, even with its limitations. Members Unfed
actually, there is ADSR available on the Pulse and Noise channels. the Triangle channel (which is generally used for bass) only allows control of the gate time, and samples (at least in NTRQ) just play back as one-shots. so far it allows for sample start offeset, but this isn't too useful with the included 808/909/707 samples. it should be possible to load your own sample set in the future (FamiTracker for the PC already does this), but you would have to prepare your samples and build the NES ROM yourself. Members The Professiona
The melody (and the rhythm in the beginning) reminds me of Kid Icarus
Members SoundwaveLove
There's no way to do with with nesticle?
Members Unfed
sure, emulators will work, but Nesticle is a bit old/weak. might want to try something like Nestopia/FCEUx/etc... if you come up with anything, you can send me the file and i can play/record it from the actual NES using the PowerPak.
