Members GorgeBarri
Do you think a Silverface Fender Champ, modded with a 10' Celestion Vintage speaker, would be a good recording amp?. All opinions welcomed. I am considering buying it. http://www.rexrobards.com/riqueriquardo/images/a828551.jpg

Members skipstar59
Alot of people mod smaller Fender amps such as Champs and Princeton Reverb amps to make them more gig worthy or just to give them more flexibility. I did that with my 66' PR by putting in a Emi. Ramrod 75 watt speaker. I really opened up the tone and gave me more clean headroom. On my 70' PR, I really modded it by putting in a Deluxe OT and an Emi. Gov. in it. Now it's a really loud and clean amp, and it's my main gig amp. Here's some pics of my PR's

Members Paul J. Edwards
An all tube Champ is a great amp. Eric Claptons Layla was recorded with a Champ for a lot of the tracks.

Thanks George, I think you should snag that Champ. You can't go wrong with that little amp. They're just so classic.I've actually use my little Champ for some very small intimate gigs, and it was just rigth for the gig. With a few OD's, I was able too sound just great. Here's a closeup of my little Champ.

Members GorgeBarri
I just can't wait to play it with my 62' reissue Fender Stratocaster, I will buy it. I would use it as a recording amp, eventually I might even turn it into a head, it has been modded anyway.

Members GorgeBarri
thats funny, I found it amusing that the champ that i'm buying has a 10' speaker. What size of speaker would be the biggest to fit, would a 12' fit?. It could enhance the clean headroom. It would seem like a pimped out ride. muajajja
Members skipstar59
I does need a larger speaker Loghead. I'm probably get my amp guy to do some of his mad scientist amp stuff and put in a 10" speaker and maybe a Princeton OT if it can handle it. Then it can be a loud an rude little Mutha.LOL
