Vintage Ampeg question

Hi, guys, I'm Steve, I normally stick to Cool jam, but I wondered if anyone could help me out with this question.

I recently aquired a 1968 Ampeg ReverbRocket. I had one 25 years ago, and it was an awsome little amp, so I been on the lookout for quite some time. When I got this one, I noticed that, even dimed, it stayed quite clean, no overdriven sound at all. I took it to my electronics guy, who said somone had modded it: a couple resitors in the output tube bias circuit.

Anyone have an idea why this mod would be done, and to what purpose?

Thanks.

whoever had it probably wanted it to stay clean turned all the way up.

alot of jazz guys used to use ampegs and for the most part they like squeaky clean amps.

This seems like the right answer.

The Reverberocket II has one of hte best power tube distortion sounds ever turned all the way up. If that's the model you had, get that baby returned to spec and find good tubes for it (easier said then done)-- turn her up and report back. I always want to buy one when I see it but never do.
