Members Random Hero
Peter Gabriel - Solsbury Hill Dream Theater - Solitary Shell I was humming Solsbury Hill this morning, and it made me wonder...
Members Chudanez
Sounds very similar. I wouldn't be suprised. They have albums in the recording studio to influence them. I think the main reason it sounds similar is the time signature and tonality. I think both are in 3/4 (or 6/8 whichever way you view it, I prefer 6/8) with a bar of 2/8 at the end. (don't quote me on that haha)
Members Random Hero
Solitary Shell is 3/4, Solsbury Hill is in 7/4. I agree, I think the time signature and tonailty have alot to do with it.
Members Chudanez
I always counted Solitary Shell as: 123, 223, 123, 223, 12 123, 223, 123, 223, 12 Well, the intro anyway. The rest is in straight 3/4 I guess... I'm not big on time signatures haha You can count the same way to Solsbury Hill. Whether it's right or not is another thing haha
Members AMSnell
It could be one of those things when you write a song, and your like "{censored}! This is AMAZING" Then someone tells you its someone elses song, and your like, crap...

Muse, U2, Pink Floyd, Linkin Park, Megadeth and Metallica have all been "tributed" in the past. Some to a lesser extent than others, but it's there. It's possible, but I wouldn't imagine so. Members draelyc
I remember reading one of those "60 minutes of music with John Petrucci" in a guitar mag years ago -- he raved about "Solsbury Hill" ... so, I wouldn't be surprised if it influenced him a tad...
