Steve Vai's tone was better with the Bogners than now

Carvin Legacy's are basically poor man's XTC's anyway

The only tone I was extremely impressed with and loved from Vai was the songs "Oooo" and "Under it All". Ironically, I think both of them were heavilly processed. Under it All was tons of guitars with huge extrended chords where he recorded each string one at a time whereas Oooo was quite a processed 7-string song.

Otherwise apart from them, I think his tone is good. Nothing to write home about though :p
