Members sadlytragic
The Mesa 2x12 has V30 Speakers. So does the cheaper B-52. How big of difference can there be? Both closed backs and same speakers. And if this is the case why not go even cheaper and go Avatar with V30 Speakers. So is there a difference or is it all-in-all the same? Members pretaanluxis
Go to a music store if possible and try out a few cabs, you'll quickly notice there can be a big difference even with the same speakers. Sometimes it's just due to one cab being broken-in and the other not though..
Members Vinhoff
of the 3 i would buy the Avatar Vintage cab, the mesa is no doubt nice but not worth the extra money to me and I see no reason to buy a B-52 when an Avatar seems somewhat more sturdy to me. Members sadlytragic
Sadly i go to school in the middle of no where way up in Michigan so no music stores unless i wanna buy a Squire amp, YAY!!! My guitarist just got a B52 but i haven't hooked up to it yet. plus they're never on Ebay so i think i will go the Avatar route. use to have bass cabs from them, no complaints. Members Popoon
The same speakers can sound a little different even placed at the top or the bottom of a diagonal cab.
Members Mood Bender
I have moved speakers between cabs often and the tone difference can be substantial. For example, a V30 speaker in my AMPEG V4 cab is much darker than in my Mesa 2x12.
Members Sordid1
Speakers are the biggest difference followed by dimensions and whether they are front or back loaded. There will be differences from cab to cab with the same speakers. Also Mesa uses different V30's than the normal ones and they are a little darker if I remember right. Members sadlytragic
good to know. I may just go with the Avatar since its cheaper then B-52. I was just going to sell my vertical 2x12 mesa for a horizonal but if i can pocket some cash to pay off my MusiciansFriend credit card, woot.
