Can i use notes from other keys or not? If it sounds right I can use it, right? You don't always have to use theory, so can I use notes outside the key? For instance, if the song is slow and lazy, don't go into some frenzied atonal shredding. If you do something like that, it will sound as though you have no clue. On the other hand, if you present a well crafted, stylistically consistent solo, you will have triumphed greatly. (Edit) Just remember who wrote the song. Have fun, but be respectful to the creator.
