Members noseminer
2 different mics. I LOVE my 906. I like it more than my I5 or my beta 57. They all do different things well though. which presence setting do you use? I usually just keep mine in the middle position.
Members Herald of Light
That's the difference - I don't like to add high end to a snare mic, because it makes it sound glassy to me. I always feel like it bleeds too much of the HH if I boost the top end, especially with my snare mic compressed.I usually use the compressor to thicken the snare up, and cut some of the top end to keep the HH out of the snare mic. Yeah, I often end up low passing it, for those reasons.
Members cobrahead1030
how about an i5 below and a 57 on top. This is what I want to try. that actually works pretty well, tho i usually don't use a bottom snare mic
Members Thrice_removed
You might want to try a Shure SM7b as well. A lot of engineers are starting to use them more and more for close mic'ing as they are slightly smoother sounding than the SM57 - but it does come with a price hike. Members anomaly
The Audix i5 is bugging me alot lately. It can sound very thick cause it seems to have alot of low mids, but that kinda makes it hard to get a good mix when recording. It's really finnicky with positioning too. I've always had a much easier time recording with the SM-57. That thing sounded good no matter what.
