so I opened it up to do as you said and found that the tung sol I put in there about 4 months ago ( I meant to put it into V1) was actually in V3 , what a dick.
so I put tung sol into V1 and put the mullard 12at7 into v3 .
and it sounds fantastic , real nice open cleans loads of presence and smoooth.

ok . so I've tried the mullard 12 AT7 in V3 (the phase inverter) with a tung sol in V1 with a groove tube in V2 , cleans sounded excellent really open chimey and articulate. But , the overdrive sounded pretty fizzy .
so I went with the mullard in V1 and the tung sol in V2 , now evreything is smoothed out nice , same quality cleans with much smoother fizz free gain.
oh and more headroom .

Ive heard that the PI doesnt affect tone really. V1 definately affects tone.

Funny thing is, when I change from a 12ax7PI to a AT7, seems to be a difference in tone so I dont know whos fooling who. The pros will be in shortly to straighten us out Im sure... :poke:

moving preamp tubes around to any V# or phase inverter always makes a difference in tooone
