Members lunarian1
I have just bought a mullard 12at7 to put in v1 of my crate V3112 ,looking for more clean headroom. But I stumbled across this http://www.guitaramplifierblueprinting.com/files/Phaseinverter.pdf and now I'm confused , and I have to admit a novice at this type of thing. any thoughts , help much appreciated . cheers Davie. Members BluesMan60
Try it in both sockets, one at a time, and see if you notice a difference.
Members lunarian1
I guess this means there is no "right " answer then , personal taste and individual amp ?
Members lunarian1
so I opened it up to do as you said and found that the tung sol I put in there about 4 months ago ( I meant to put it into V1) was actually in V3 , what a dick. so I put tung sol into V1 and put the mullard 12at7 into v3 . and it sounds fantastic , real nice open cleans loads of presence and smoooth. Members lunarian1
ok . so I've tried the mullard 12 AT7 in V3 (the phase inverter) with a tung sol in V1 with a groove tube in V2 , cleans sounded excellent really open chimey and articulate. But , the overdrive sounded pretty fizzy . so I went with the mullard in V1 and the tung sol in V2 , now evreything is smoothed out nice , same quality cleans with much smoother fizz free gain. oh and more headroom . Members timmmy
turn it off first like totally off, or is standby okay? because i've heard you can turn on an amp with no tubes in the preamp section and nothing bad will happen (provided it's plug into a speaker/dummy load)

Members RonniePentatonic
Ive heard that the PI doesnt affect tone really. V1 definately affects tone. Funny thing is, when I change from a 12ax7PI to a AT7, seems to be a difference in tone so I dont know whos fooling who. The pros will be in shortly to straighten us out Im sure... :poke:
