Stupid Question

I know this is a stupid question, but I display my ignorance on a regular basis and in grand fashion.

I've played mostly through transistor amps for most of my guitar playing life.

I've had some nice ones, Marshall, Peavey and others. About 10 years or so ago I bought a 5150 head to play through my 412 cabinet. But just after I bought it the band I was in broke up. And I basically quit playing.

Now I'm in another band the 5150 is gone but I just bought another tube amp. Another Peavey, this time an Ultra Plus. It is an awesome amp.

But when I crank it up, I get a lot of feedback. So what can I do to keep the feedback to a minimum without cutting the gain too far back?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

New tubes. If your amp has the original tubes...they could be low quality or just going bad. Make sure all your cables are good quality, and your effects are in proper order. An ISP Decimator will give you awesome noise surpression w/out tone suckage. Also, stock PuPs tend to feedback more than good quality like Seymour Duncan or Dimarzio's...
