Members JoshuaLogan
I just got this synth and it's a {censored}ing beast. If you like synths at all, you should check it out. It sounds amazing... I'm talking like comparable with the Access Virus ($$$!!!) amazing. And it's just a tiny VSTi plugin! hardly takes up any CPU... Home site: http://www.lennardigital.com/modules/sylenth1/ And this site I found http://www.vstsoundbanks.com/ has an awesome (and very cheap!) presets bank for it. Sound demos: http://www.vstsoundbanks.com/mp3/vstsoundbanks_-_sylenth1_1.mp3 http://www.vstsoundbanks.com/mp3/vstsoundbanks_-_sylenth1_2.mp3 http://www.adamszabo.com/mp3/Adam_Van_Baker_Sylenth1_Soundset_Preset_Demo.mp3 I love this thing

Members JoshuaLogan
Well, you have now. It's one of the best VA synths I've ever heard (software or hardware)... pure awesomeness.

Members JoshuaLogan
Play with MASSIVE for about half an hour then come talk to me I have Massive... and Absynth and FM8.... Massive is a cool synth and fun to use, but very digital sounding. For that thick Virus-like VA sound, Sylenth1 is wayyy better. The Native Instruments synths are cool, but there are lots of lesser known soft synths out there as good or better... stuff like Sylenth1, U-he Zebra 2, Cakewalk Z3TA+, and ReFX Vanguard

Members Voltaire
While we're talking about synths! I'm trying to find a synth program that's more geared toward industrial-ambience--think Silent Hill music. anybody know anything?

Superwave8 is also a really good analogish sound synth its modeled after a waldorf ppg I think.Chimera is another really cool synth for creepy sounding pads. Both are free. Members KCTigerChief
i played around with this sylenth1 last night, and i must say there is lots of usable sounds in there. I also bought the soundbanks, but haven't got to try them out yet. Thanks for the tip man! I've been needing some synths to add as ambience to some more melodic stuff, hopefully this can fill that void

I never heard of superwave8 or chimera. I'll check them out. I like the pads and soundscapes kinda stuff. I got a whole bunch of synths now.... actually a pretty ridiculous amount.....lol more cool ones that haven't been mentioned so far for anyone curious: GForce Minimonsta (awesome... like a Minimoog on steroids) Gforce impOSCar Image-Line Poizone Image-Line Morphine Image-Line Toxic Image-Line Sytrus (not synth, but cool) Linplug/Rob Papen Albino 3 Linplug Octupus Rob Papen Predator And probably the coolest of the bunch that I really want is the Devine Machine Krishna Synth, but I don't has the monies for it at the moment. I just started getting into soft synths recently, and I'm pretty impressed. Some of them sound damn good... much better than any budget kind of hardware synths out there, like stuff by Alesis and Korg (I used to have the Alesis Micron)... and some of them are comparable to really nice hardware gear like the Nord, Kurzweil, and Access stuff. I sold the hardware synth gear I had a couple years ago when I needed money for guitar gear, but now after getting my new computer I started getting a bunch of soft synths and like them even better than any of the stuff I used to have! It's gonna be fun using these. I need to get a nice midi keyboard now. Anybody recommend one? P.S. I just read that Mogwai used NI Massive... that's pretty cool. Members JoshuaLogan
Haha, yeah. Just adding to the thread, if you have Absynth and like ambient synth (pads and atmospheric stuff), you should check out the Camel Audio Biolabs and Starscape Abysnth presets packs... Beautiful stuff... I'm getting them ASAP. They'll be awesome for the ambient music I'm into. http://www.camelaudio.com/StarscapeAbsynthSounds.php http://www.camelaudio.com/BiolabsAbsynthSoundsVols1-3.php http://www.camelaudio.com/BiolabsAbsynthSoundsVols4-6.php Lots of really good sound demos on each page... very much worth listening to!
