Members blargh
I want to buy a pair of Sennheiser HD650s. Is there a great sounding headphone amp out there that isn't a horrific rip-off?
Members Hazel_oranges
I want to buy a pair of Sennheiser HD650s. Is there a great sounding headphone amp out there that isn't a horrific rip-off?I have the HD-555s and they give me boners everytime I put them on. Plus, I plug em into myy amp at night so I won't wake up my roommate or neighbors while jamming Sennheisers are worth the money. You can get the HD-555s on amazon for $

Members Agreed
How much money are you looking to spend? One of my favorite amps to use with the HD650 is the Gilmore Lite, but if you're going to use a 9V-based amp (which, by the way, can cause clipping with the HD580/600/650 under demanding conditions), a buffered, split-rail CMoy-esque amp wouldn't be a bad choice. Don't go under 9V, though, whatever you do. Asking for trouble trying to drive 300ohm cans with less than 9V; 12V provides sufficient dynamic headroom to avoid clipping under all conditions, provided the capacity to deliver sufficient current is there. Members -todgemistro-
Apparently this is really good - http://www.gspaudio.co.uk/headphoneamps/voyagerheadphoneamplifier.htm I have a pair of Grado SR80s and I love how they sound, really clear and defined. A bit thin on the bass but you get enough. Apparently Senns are a bit bassier sounding

Members newholland
another vote for the sr80's-- anything goes wrong either, and john grado might just pick up the phone to take care of you. listened to a lot more expensive, but none better sounding-- perfect balance!
