Members VGW
One of my newest songs has really gotten a lot of positive response from my band, but they never listen to lyrics. Musically, I think it's a strong song, but I am wondering if the lyrics measure up. Also, I am curious if anyone can figure out what these mean. It is personal to me, but I tend to not be real obvious about what I am feeling. MY FAULT Babes and beers, boobs and beadsMy eyes gets distracted easilyI took free classes with discount patchesBut that's not the right thing for meDon't tell me what is funI think I ought to know Beer can castles in high rise apartmentsI lose my focus regularlyBlue blood bitches with popped up collarsYour friends don't think much of meDon't tell me I'm the oneI think I'm just for show So I lie here hitting the snooze button'Cause I spent last night with the blues cuttingRight through meAnd you'll seeThat nothing is ever my faultAnd everything's always my faultAnd nothing you can do to meIs worse than what I do to me Golf cart races and Wal-Mart rednecksI find I'm amused easilyLaughing at the wrong parts of moviesYou're too mature for meYou think that I'm too dumbBut I know it's just a joke Late night phone calls and stupid head gamesI don't think I can take much moreI like to gamble with your loveSo I'll see you and raise you off the floorDon't tell me that you've changedI've heard that one before So I lie here hitting the snooze button'Cause I spent last night with the blues cuttingRight through meAnd you'll seeThat nothing is ever my faultAnd everything's always my faultAnd nothing you can do to meIs worse than what I do to me
Members blue2blue
I think it tells a pretty good story... a kind of classic story. When one starts to realize he's the "bad boy" in someone's live-it-out romantic fantasy, packaged into a roll he thinks he's overqualified for. Yeah... I get it, for sure. It gets a little kaleidoscopic (or perhaps the kaleidocope gets directed at non-core stuff for a few moments) but I think it's overall some pretty economical storytelling. Just out of curiosity (and I don't want to spoil it for anyone who doesn't want to know -- so they should stop reading now) but what type of music do these lyrics go to? Members VGW
Blue, I'm impressed. There are two themes in the song, and you hit one of them right on the head. The other theme is more subtle. Maybe this is why it feels a little off target at times. Do you think it is too distracting? Almost all of our songs are of the pop-rock variety, but this one is more mature, for lack of a better word, than some of our others. It has an unusual chord progression, but it really seems to work for this song. It is still uptempo, but there are a lot of changes in dynamics. I'm really looking forward to playing this one live. Thanks for the feedback.
