Members CorpseTumor
For those who work/have worked their. How much can you get an instrument for with employee discount? like lets say a 699 dollar guitar.
Members guitarstar81
Too broad of a question. Narrow it down to specific brands and you might be able to get an answer. Rule of thumb is GC cost is in the neighborhood of 50% off of list price.
Members xmorgan socialx
What he said. Some guitars in the higher price ranges you can get as much as $1,000-$1,200 off, where as some guitars you only get $200 or $300 off. It really depends on what it is. But a $700 guitar I couldnt expect to get any more than $200 off.
Members rockstrongo
All based on cost to them. Some things at the shop I get anywhere from 40-60 percent off. When I worked for GC and every other music store in the area, they always tacked on an extra 10% of that, and that was your employee discount. Members Aidiptg2112
It depends on how much they have in stock and how often they sell. My freind is a manager and I always call him and ask him how much for.... etc. It always depends on something.

Members jlc1587
I walk in with a certain amount of money... and I don't do this to lie it's always the truth. Say I want a guitar case for 99 dollars but I only have 75 dollars at the time. I tell them thats all I got and they usually take it.
Members jlc1587
You better look online before you go to ANY music stores these days. Tons of times I have went to local music stores and bought stuff and then came home and looked it up online and it'll be like 100 dollars cheaper. I try to support small music stores instead of places like guitar center but most of them are overpriced.

Members Aidiptg2112
But Ive never really been able to get whatever I want. My freind says it all depends on whats in stock and how much of it. And if it is blemished he can get a better discount
Members jlc1587
I don't buy guitars at guitar center. All those kids play them and they have scratches on them a lot of times and the jacks are almost torn out. The good thing is that you can take it back if you don't like it though. Members paintkilz
as a former Guitar Dept manager, it helped to know what brands you profited the most from for your commission.. i could sell a $1400 Fender or Gibson, and make more selling a $699 Ibanez or Jackson...ESPECIALLY the ibanez....i had no quarrels selling those...i made ATLEAST a 1/4 of the sale price as a commission and the guitar wasnt that bad either... if i still worked there i would definitely be getting a new 24fret S series....but, i dont know ANYONE there now...so my promised discount for life no longer applies.. the best deal i got was my sd-1...was like $22 brand new i believe..
