Members petejt
Mercyful Fate's earlier music has been a big influence on what I play and creating tones, apart from knowing that they used Marshall amps (Plexis I guess, or JMP 2203s) and Fender Stratocasters, I have no idea what particular effect pedals/rack units they used, or even the brands. Does anyone know?

Members ed the yak
I watched a couple videos of them on youtube a while ago, and I remember seeing one of the guitar players using a Laney AOR. I'm not sure if it was their early gear though.
Members troublehead
Pretty sure it was mainly 1959 superleads. Probably a boost of some sort and a dose of chorus on much of it. Fender Strats with Duncan Quarter Pounder single coils and Gibson Flying V's

You wouldn't happen to know what brand of effects pedals they used? You said chorus- would it be an actual chorus pedal, or a flanger or something? Not sure, Sounds like a regular old chorus pedal to me............especially on Don't Break the Oath.

I love the tone on that album So you reckon just a Boss CE-2 or something common like that? I'm just curious.

Members petejt
Should work fine. Cool, thanks. Some songs like Welcome Princes of Hell sound like that 'doubling' wide sort of chorus, and other songs (e.g. Desecration of Souls) seem more swirly & detuned. That's why I was thinking it might be two different methods, e.g. one a flanger on a chorus effect, another was a chorus doing a doubling effect, etc.
Members petejt
Just wondering if there's anymore input elsewhere.
