Members pissdrunx
I think a time for new preamp tubes will come shortly, so which ones should I take? Opposite of most people I want it to have less gain with more headroom and darker tone. JJ are supposed a bit darker than most, I have those in the power section, should I stick some in the preamp as well?Oh, it`s an 81 or 83 2204. I would like to bring it a bit towards older marshall tone... And while were at it, I would need some speaker recomendation. Right now I`m running it thru 2x12 with eminence wizards(75w). I was thinking of getting a solid 4x12 and swap the speakers. So which ones would compliment wizards good, greenbacks maybe?

Members pissdrunx
thanx.which kind of tubes should I take, for less gain an more headroom(12ax7...)?and about the speakers, if i take greenbacks would they go with wizards, considering that greenbacks a 25w and wizards are 75w? i don`t want one to overpower the others volumewise. Members petejt
Use 12AY7 preamp valves if you want less gain in the preamp. But that won't increase the headroom. KT-88's in the poweramp might.
Members pissdrunx
I probably cant just stick kt88s in right? don`t wanna mod it, lately it seems that unmoded 800s are far and few between.
Members TheEsupremacy
The Shuguang Chinese 9th gen. preamp tubes sound as good or better in a Marshall than most others.
Members peehoo
For older Marshall tones I'd get an all greenback cab because this is basically it as far as older Marshall cabs go...
Members BluesMan60
Use 12AY7 preamp valves if you want less gain in the preamp. Yes, but more than one may be too much. Try one in V1 for an overall cleaner amp or V2 for less overdrive/gain.You can also try 5751s all the way across.Mike KKCA NOS Tubeswww.kcanostubes.com
