Man where do I start ..Vito is truly one of my favorites for a few reasons he has great chops but made it clear that this was not his biggest attribute, the melodic compositions with killer finger taps and first to my knowledge double finger taps are pioneering. The best way to explain his playing is one word " Finesse" or my explanation Love as an ingredient you pick, as Vito stated on Trunk in his words... "Subtlety's" He knew how to do that better then anyone in my opinion. But if we are speaking truth here Vito made beautiful music but what was truly great was that he made truly grate music the most beautiful that was possible ... in other words the approach to how he pulled of the solo's was insane with going from not the easiest position but the most beautiful full sounding way to acquire that magic. Eddie VH is a huge part of that along with many artist inspirations as EVH was to us all, duhh it's Edward freakin VH HAHAHA. Vito's songs and solo's were killer and not Eddie? Vito had his own sound otherwise we would only listen to Eddie. Vito has also inspired many ppl like Nuno B. listen to the pride album and hmmmm kind of sounds like early Porno Graffitit playing how he stole absolute signature rhymes and transitions from Vito to create his style but Nuno is a beast as well also seeming to follow the speed and choppiness of Paul Gilbert the other hottest guitarist of the time moving through the late 80's. We take and develop each other and sounding like another guitarist, just says you love that artist. Vito is a huge influence on my playing along with so many who rocked the 70's -90's and all who are reading this post. The funny thing is ppl are so quick to judge or take away from an artist that if you only knew how many hrs of playing they had to make to be who they became you would say they are the hardest working ppl on the planet. Also funny how the long hair and torn genes gave us all a loser image to those who don't understand, meanwhile in the bat cave super hero's at work. I think in the end Vito just wanted to be with his family and not deal with the road and band drama, he made his mark and is still inspiring us with that work. I know a few friends who made it and all they do is complain on FB and such about how much they miss being home with fam and friends. There is a reason that ppl fall in to drugs and drinking it's a wild ride a the top and your selling yourself to the public and really selling your freedom. I know this about Vito he is not broke and was always good with his money, he lives a quiet life below his means. As far as some of the rumors that he is working as a in a bagel shop / pizza maker or what ever, they are false he may be an investor and own some things. I haven't have touch with him in many years since 1989 but mutual friends say this is false. He still lives in NY and is under the radar. As far as I know he had carpal tunnel issues but I get that too and you just need to stretch the wrist and shake it off .. you will see Yngwei does this too we all get that, I don't know how sever it was for him since I am not in touch with him, but he says he still plays acoustic guitar in one of the interviews there really is no difference to be honest. I know if I had that problem I would prob start exercising it if that didn't work then I think I would learn to play jimmi Hendrix style and would solve the prob or with my toes so highly doubtful that he doesn't play anymore at all. I would say probable that he is not serious like before. Lets face it he made money the record co.'s treated them like sh.t and the music changed. It changed me for many years but I came back to working hard on this stuff from 2008 and now funny how it's coming back, but Vito dosen't have to he made it.
