Sounds like you want a different tonality though. Have you tried the dod od250 pedal? Mxr distortion plus? Boss blues driver? Boss od-3? Those pedals may be more up your alley.Take care,Brian Hmm, could be... I can actually "check out" pedals through my work, so I'm going to see if I can take home the SD-1 tonight and see what it sounds like on my rig. I've tried that Boss blues driver, and I like that one as well.
Members Uma Floresta
Okay, I took home the Boss SD-1 last night, and my perception was correct -- it's much brighter -- no muffled sound. The Fab OD is much more midrangy, even with the tone maxed out on the treble side. To get the SD-1 to sound somewhat as muffled as the Fab OD with its tone knob as bright as it will go, I had to turn the SD-1's tone knob all the way down. With the tone knob on the SD-1 at about noon or 1:00, it was nice and transparent, with little perceivable EQ alteration, and no need to use my 7-band EQ to get it that way. It could also get brighter than what I would prefer. Interestingly, they kind of sounded good together, with the SD-1 going into the Fab OD -- it made for a kind of half-cocked wah, overdriven sound. I think I'll purchase an SD-1 in the next couple of weeks (I'll keep the Fab OD as well, though). You can also get a cheap DIY mod kit for the SD-1 from this site: http://www.monteallums.com/Product_links.htmlIt's like 20 bucks to either enhance the SD-1, or mod it to TS-808 specs. Anyone have any experience with that? Are the kits doable for a beginner?

Members dan-o-guitar
I picked up the Fab overdrive last night at the local GC. 10 bucks. Amazing. Will crack the case tonight. From what I've seen on the Fab pedals (I think I have all of them now) there are two boards: 1. A common switching/power supply/mux logic board.2. The board specific to the effect. Should make it *really* easy to true-bypass these things.

Tons and tons. Actually, we build diy kits around what the customer is looking for, rather than a "one size fits all" type of approach. It should be noted that our DIY approach is the exact same as the mods you would find if you sent a pedal to Indyguitarist.com, which is our site as well. Keep in mind that we were doing this long before anyone else decided to hop on the band wagon - we provide tech support and we constantly update our kits and mods.
