Worth the effort?

A family friend is selling a 1965 mustang for $2500 dollars. I'm thinking about picking it up as a project. It has a 289, 3 speed on the floor, and 54,000 original miles. It has a few exterior rust spots, but none are deep or through the metal. The engine will need rebuilt or at least gone through after sitting for so long. The front brakes also need serious attention. I would plan on building the 289 to make decent power, and put in a tremec 3650 5 speed.

Do you think this would be achievable for under 5k? What does the collective automotive mind of HCAF have to say?

Pics mang. Sounds like a fun project. But you didn't mention anything about the tranny, suspension, etc.
:cop:

I'll get some. The car runs and drives now. All the fluids need changed, etc., just from sitting so long, but they're all working mechanically. Suspension is fine, interior is perfect. The 3 speed tranny works, but I want to swap in a five speed.
