Anyone ever use the mxr mc-402

I have been eyeing them for while now. I have been using a super overdrive with a boosta grande to push my Randall rg100. But I like that this pedal has a clean boost and a separate overdrive together.

I have also been thinking about going with the mxr wylde overdrive with the mxr mc-401

Any thoughts

Had an mc-401, it's a fantastic clean boost. Get one.

I've never heard an mc-402 but almost all the reviews/opinions I've seen indicate that the overdrive side doesn't sound very good.

I had the 401 for a while. it was a good boost, much better than the Micro Amp..it did not alter my Avengers tone at all. i just have never messed with the 402 yet

I'm loving my mc402

the zw44 I had was great too (as a booster, it was better than greenies, if you ask me)

 

the boost/overdrive is pretty versatile

the clean boost is very very transparent

the overdrive responds a bit different than regular green screamers/super ODs

with the gain on zero, you don't get any sound at all, just like an amp, so you need to balance the output and gain

usually output at 1:00 and gain at 9:00 works pretty good

 

the drive goes well with the boost engaged too, but that depends a lot on your pickups output and specially how you close they are to the strings

 

it's a lot less noisy than the wylde

 

I was very skeptical about the overdrive section, but it works really well, at least in the amps I've tried it so far (zambelli hyperdrive and bogner alchemist)
