Members DarkHorseJ27
I currently don't have an electric amp, which is a shame considering I got a '67 ES-335. I've tried many amps, and so far the Epi Valve Jr. seems to have the best balance of tone and cost, but the lack on EQ is a considerable downside. However there are many affordable EQ pedals out there, and I was wondering if anyone was happy with their experiences of the Valve Jr. plus EQ pedal. Members theAntihero
Eq's upfront usually sound oddly boxy and not great. Personally i didnt like my valve jr at all with an eq or with anything.

Could be, a lot of people like to mod the crap out of them but stock , well there arent a lot of people that love them. Of all the 5 watt amps out there the Valve Jr would be my least favorite by far. Crate makes an old v508 thats great and ive been very pleased with my Bugera v5. Members edthecat
I've got one... put the Bitmo trio mod in it. Sounds pretty darn good. I use a fish and chips pedal in front of it... but only for mid bump boost for solo stuff. The Bitmo mod has a push/pull tone knob that works well for "eq" stuff. The knob is your typical "tone" knob, and the push/pull adds a bit of highs and lows, from what I hear... sorta "fattens" it up a bit. It's not too hard to install... and sounds great.
