Probably been covered, djent tone. HOW DO?

i don't think anyone has mentioned one of the most important parts....especially if you are going for the Meshuggah sound.

 

you gotta play the extended chords.

 

I'll use a 7 string example:

 

e-------

b-------

g-------

d--4----

a--2----

e--2----

b--0----

 

adding that extra F# on the D string will really djent sound going....as far as amp settings get the tightest boosted metal sound you can muster from your rig. the rest is note choices and rhythm phrasing....along with a HEAVY handed palm mute

 

if you're going for the Periphery sound (which is what most of the djent kids are all about)

then you need to do the same thing, just focus on using a REALLY heavy picking hand for the BOW BOW sound on the open 7th or 8th string. also, those cool micro tonal bends that have become all the rage.
