Its about time for one.

Over the past year I've had a growing love for jazz, and these days listen to it at least as much as metal, if not more so. I am still totally a noob/novice when it comes to the genre

Lately I've really been enjoying some of the bigger names more out there experimental stuff from the late 60s/70s

And some more traditional stuff for the less adventuresome listener

I know I've barely scratched the surface of the genre, but I look forward to digging into more.

Check out Alex Skolick Trio!

:thu: definitely good stuff. They sort of served as a bridge for me a couple years back, and piqued my first interest in jazz. I'm hoping to pull a Skolnick and take some jazz guitar classes at school next semester and try to get good at jazz guitar. My guitar teacher in high school was a metalhead turn jazz buff, and what jazz stuff he did teach me, I definitely love it.

Damn that sucks. John Scofield played at my campus earlier this year, and I didn't find out till the day after it happened. I was so pissed

Yeah, he was at the Monterey Jazz festival when I was living in Monterey.

And I recently heard some Jon Schofield that I really liked on NPR, but forgot the name of the tune.

Oh, and also, this thread has a distinct lack of Joe Pass
