Members H.R. Shove and Stuff
Why do no tube sockets come with mounting equipment? What do you use and where do you get it? Trying to keep them pretty small as there isn't a lot of space.
Members amp_surgeon
I think they don't come with mounting hardware because there are different ways to mount them, depending on the application. If you're building a head or home stereo amp, then you probably just want to bolt or rivet them hard to the chassis. On the other hand, if you're building a combo amp then you probably want to shock mount them (e.g., using rubber grommets or leaf springs) to cut down on microphonics. Most of the amps I've seen with chassis mounted sockets use rivets.
Members syscrusher
4-40 is the perfect size for preamp sockets. 6-32 for power sockets. Self threading works great for aluminum chassis and workable with steel. I buy from this guy all the time. He's super fast. http://www.hoffmanamps.com/
Members The Tone God
Many tubes sockets can also take different size screws like #4 and #6 screws some even #8 so there is a range of hardware and mounting options. It would be too difficult to supply the hardware to cover all the options and would drive up the cost to include all that hardware. Instead it is expected that the orderer would know what they need for their particular mounting option. Your Tone God, Andrew
Members Casey4s
I build mostly combos and I never shock mount anything. You can get the 4/40 screws at Radio Shack. Most of my builds are Pop Riveted right to the chassis with 1/8 rivets. Works great and they never work loose.
Members H.R. Shove and Stuff
Ah sweet, thanks for the responces. They will be on a pedal, so no need to worry about the shock mounts and whatnot. I'll go hit up radioshack and see if they got the screws to fit the socket. Thanks! Members The Tone God
Home centers like Home Depot and Rona should have hardware too. Andrew
