Members thefyn
Basically we need metal based and guitar based magazines, radio stations (major metal hours), record labels, electronic submissions etc etc etc. Pref an ebook or some other online source where we can cut and paste addresses, contact names etc etc. Bands from the amp forum put together a CD. All profits made from the sale of each CD will be put towards a press pack to try and break one of the bands. Members miimusic
You should be able to compile a pretty strong list of offline press yourself by getting on the web and searching. Then, get on the phone and ask whoever answers the phone who you should send your style of music to. Buy the magazines and work out who would review it. Then, call back, as X X (make it up yourself) and say that you're a PR from overseas and you don't have any contacts over here but someone told you to look this person up as they ought to like your band. That'll make them remember you. Send it in and follow up....lots. It's not as good as having a PR person, but it works. PR is usually actually all about personal relationships, so you won't get the old network advantages, but it's better than nothing. Far more importantly - get on the web (Hype Machine and Google Blog Search) and find 100 plus Blogs that review your kind of music. Check their traffic rank by using the Alexa toolbar in Firefox (Google that if you don't know what I mean), and if they are above 2 million, reach out, find someone to pass your CD to and do it. You can search on HypeM for bands that sound like you or for genre keywords - you'll work it out! Getting a following on the blogs will then lead the journos offline to want to write about your band. For lots more essential advice, have a look at our blog. Good luck.
