Guild Flagship Dreadnought!

This D55 includes the Fishman Matrix Natural pickups!

Guild has been building dreadnought acoustic guitars since 1963, and their instruments are revered for their value, reliability, tone, responsiveness, outstanding projection and sustain. The Guild

I've played 3 of the "new" Calfornia-built Guild D-55's.

- the first was great .... looked good and sounded good. My only beef was the pickguard seemed a little rough ( edges look as if they'd been cut with a serraded edge.

- the second was the D-55 Anniversary model ... BEAUTIFUL guitar with brazilian back/sides. Sounded great, played even better.

- the third was a regular D-55 and it was a mess. Very poor finishing ( the fretboard wood was poor quality ) There were issues with the finish on the guitar body .... AND the guitar played like drawer full of thick wooly socks. Also the inlay on the fingerboard was UGLY ... had these vertical white lines on either side of the fret ( simulating binding ).

2 out of 3 ain't bad .... ;)

Hey Scott,

Guild is one of the "Big 3" American guitar makers along with Gibson and Fender. Guild's were actually preferred through the 60's-70's and considered better built than Gibsons.

With the purchase by Fender, and the subsequent closing of the Rhode Island factory where they were handmade, the perception is that the quality has gone down.

I disagree. I think they are great guitars and have owned many old and new.

If you're thinking of getting one.........DO IT!!!

I've got an old D-25 too.

I use it with Nashville tuning these days.

32 years old - beat-up, but it's still

one of the most fantastic-sounding guitars

I've ever heard!

I've played a few of the new Guilds.

They don't sound as good as the old ones.

I wish they did.

Your photo shows a beautiful guitar.

I wonder how it sounds.

The old Guilds had a very special sound.

You need to compare the sound of the D-55

to some others in the price range.

You can never expect a new guitar to sound as good as an old one. Any fine guitar will improve with age. We call this "opening up".
