when playing fingerstyle, how many fingers do you use on your non-fretting hand?

Does it cause the body to resonate less, or is it bad for the right hand?

 

 

I doubt if either, really, simply due to the fact that bluegrass banjo pickers seem to always brace with the pinky on the banjo headskin and go like heck with (usually) two fingers and the thumb.

Thumb & 3 fingers....pinky never touches anything, might as well cut the thing off.
