That being said, Nickel Creek is my favorite band.

Holy {censored} I LOVE nickel creek! I'm listening to them right now. I saw them a few years ago and they are so incredible. I was actually thinking of picking up their sheet music for their self title album. I already have a steel string guitar and violin, but I'm thinking of getting a mandolin from walmart just so I can play their stuff. They are just so incredible.

Anyway, original poster:
Try learning black bird (beatles).
Stairway to heaven is another song that EVERYONE learns.
Black dog is kinda fun to play, rather easy but still fun.

Any sublime song works well on acoustic...try rivers of babylon (sp?) or krs-one, both are on 40oz to freedom. Smoke 2 joints is cool to on acoustic. Its fun to learn and use as a sing-a-long with your friends if your into that.

Murder by death is a great band too.

You could always try to learn some classical, even if you don't have a classical guitar. You won't get the right sound, but if your not going to perform then who cares if it doesn't play the way its suppose to.

I think Neil Young and the album Harvest is very nice acoustic guitar songs, gently powered by stronger stuff where needed.

To get a book with these songs is a good investment to further inspiration in my world.

Works at campfire partys or just by yourself.

.... cool list. Velvet Underground is perhaps my favourite band. On the other end of the "recency" meter, my hometown crew Arcade Fire is great too ...

Cheers !
