Members acwild Posted December 5, 2006 Members Posted December 5, 2006 Right now, I'm using the cheap MXL condenser mics. They seem better than using my dynamic mic, but I'm pretty sure that I can get a better sound with a mic upgrade. Any suggestions for a good recording mic that's priced under $400?
Members guitapick Posted December 5, 2006 Members Posted December 5, 2006 I really like the Rode series mics. I use an NT3 for playing out and I'm sure it would be nice for recording. I've spoken to lots of people who are into the NT5.
Members acwild Posted December 5, 2006 Author Members Posted December 5, 2006 I was looking at those but didn't know how they would be with acoustic guitars. Cool, thanks! Pardon my ignorance, but I didn't know that people used condenser mics live. They're so sensitive that I thought they were studio only. I remember recording with mine in the basement. When I put the headphones on, I could hear my wife bitching about me upstairs!

Assuming a single mic for $400 or less (double for a pair), here are a few you might want to look into: Peluso CEMC 6 (with two capsules)AT 4051SE 3Shure SM81AKG 451BBeyer MC930Neumann KM184 (used)
