Taylor Baby String Gauge ?

Dear All,

I have bought my daughter a Taylor Baby as her first guitar, she's 6, now I understand it comes with Elixir, lights 12's as standard but she has trouble with the tension of them and says its too hard to fret.

My question is can I use extra lights on 10's without affecting the guitar too much?

I have looked on the Taylor website and it talks about fitting mediums as a big NO NO due to string tension, am I right in assuming if I fitted 10's the string tension would be less and thats a good thing right?

thanks in advance

It wouldn't be as loud, it wouldn't have as deep a sound and the strings might be a bit "floppy" (due to the short scale), but otherwise, there'd be no problem.

You might also try ball-end nylon strings at first, as well.
