Martin Norman Blake Models - tonal differences

I've only played a 00018 NB. Well, I've played a few of them at my local guitar shops. I like the way they play and the sound is plenty loud. I'm not sure if the color (brighter than the Martins I'm accustomed to, probably more because I'm used to r/w instead of hog) is for me. I'm not ruling it out though because I heard some things from that guitar that I didn't know I was playing.

I haven't played the 00028 NB because I haven't been able to find one locally. I'm guessing it's a little darker? Can anyone enlighten me on the differences? I think I know the tone-wood differences, and I think the structure is pretty much the same, right? But what does it really sound like compared to the 00018NB?

I have a friend who has located a used one (00028NB) for what seems to be a good price and he says it's worth a road trip.

What say you?

This thread's sinking like a wet witch. Like an ex-mobster rat with cement shoes in the ocean. Like a bug in a peach.

Looks like I can't make that road trip. Aunt Harriet needs me to take her to get her feet scraped.

This thread's plunging like a wingless raptor. Like a wounded buffalo, puffing, snorting in rage. Like some masked muff diver in one of those cheesy porn flicks. Not that I watch that stuff. Aunt Harriet wouldn't approve.

Every guitar has different tonal nuances. I suspect that if you are playing Norman Blake models, you've figured that out.

I like rosewood, myself, but I have played a couple of mahogany guitars I liked. Gallagher makes a Doc Watson model, that is the best guitar I ever played. It was mahogany. I play a D28. I really like the sound of that guitar, spicy dark overtones.

Good luck on getting any answers, maybe no one here has played a Norman Blake model.

I've never played a NB model, but I suspect that if you look up one of the endless Mahogany vs Rosewood threads, it will give you a pretty good idea.

I think that the consensus is that Mahogany tends to sound "woodier", Rosewood tends to sound "Darker" or "Mellower".
