Online Gibson dealers who deal under the MAP price?

I sometimes also wonder if these certified dealers of Gibson sell on Ebay in disguise to get around their contracts with Gibson not to advertise prices below a certain price point etc. You might have to give up the warranty because it's a sale under the table...but it might save you several hundreds. These Gibson dealers have to move a lot of inventory to keep their deal with Gibson going...and in a tough economy it's hard to sell guitars for $2,000 that are questionably "better" than $500 Asian imports.

When I was shopping for my Taylor, I found a guy on ebay who was selling it for $100 less than MF. I contacted him and he said he was not an authorized dealer so there was no warranty. So, is that worth $100?

You often see used guitars (no warranty) selling for 50% (or less, depending on manufacturer) of what a new guitar might sell for. So, I would say no. If you aren't interested in a warranty, by used, and save $1000 instead of $100. :)
