Here's an idea for a guitar...

One of the major problem for doubleneck acoustic instruments is the amount of tension the 18 strings create on the top of the guitar, thus necessitating the use of laminate instead of solid woods. Even then doublenecks are prone to tension related issues.

So my idea is (drum roll)...make a doubleneck acoustic out of carbon fiber. That would resolve the issues that string tension makes on the body, and since you wouldn't have to overbuild the guitar as much I believe a carbon fiber doubleneck would sound better than its wooden counterparts. Plus it would look completely awesome and have the advantages of being unaffected by temperature or humidity.

Of course doublenecks and carbon fiber guitars are both niche markets, and the number of people interested in a carbon fiber doubleneck would be even less, not to mention such an instrument wouldn't be cheap. But I think the idea has merit.
