This native of Asia has been widely cultivated in many parts of the world for its showy, rich purple flowers. Also called the Empress Tree, the lightweight wood is much sought after in the Orient for cabinet-making. The wood is lighter in weight than Swamp Ash, has decent acoustic properties, and as such is excellent for solid-body guitars.

If my kid hadn't just stumbled onto a grat deal on a H/S/S protone squire with a floyd I'd probably have gotten one of those for him.

It's very lightweight.

The pups are not too good. I would have replaced them right away.

The neck is a little chunky for a "super strat" type axe. The flyod is solid though I have flogged Vai style (in my dreams) on the thing and it held tune fine. Fretwork ok.

Looks like a $300+ guitar.
