Members Clyde42
Curse Rondo and their crazy deals! I dont usually get into the low end stuff, but I dont think I can help myself at this price. Im thinking the blue would be my choice for tweaking and modding to make a usable, disposable bar band guitar. Anyone have one of these that can tell me about the pickups and trem? I would use the search function, but.........

Members timmy210
Dam only 69.99? I think I might just scratch some money around and buy one. Maybe put a single humbucker pickguard on it with a jb in the bridge. Then buy a nice warmoth neck that someone on the forum is selling. Man this idea keeps sounding better and better
Members jrfan
A recomended an sx to a coworker who wanted an inexspensivebeginner electric.I had bought an sx stl50 tele copy and while a cheap guitar was real nice for the money. My friend ordered the sx fat and I checked it out for him.It was pretty bad. The neck had the cheap satin finish and the fret work was horrid.Much worse than on my sx tele with sprung frets as well as sharpends. The neck also had no skunk stripe like on the sx tele. The pickups are very cheap and sounded so.You stated a usable guitar and I didn't find the sx fat usable at all. Sounds grim.....Im ok with the satin neck finish, I sometimes sand them a bit anyway, and no stripe is fine. Hopefully the fretwork was just a lemon, not indicative of all Fat Strats. I guess I expected to hear the pups sucked. Did your friend return/exchange his? I still think it might be worth trying one out....$88 shipped for me. Anyone else? Members timmy210
I think I'm going to jump on it. It can be a good beater, and once it gets a setup and some new strings and grovers on it'll be fine.
Members keNz
If 'search' isn't working, that sucks cuz I can remember at least half a dozen threads about the guitar. But on the plus side, Rondo is also blowing away the AL-2000 for $160!

Members SteveP
So now 69.99 is low end? I though the entire site was low end.
Members OldFenderGuy
Hmmmmm Wish I knew more about these, but $69 is a pretty low price.... I still have those GFS Vintage '59 Humbuckers, wonder how they would sound in one of these... I should order one just to have a place to put the '59 humbuckers. Just making a generalization. I would have said "bottom of the f**king barrel guitars", but I wanted to be polite. Besides, they usually sell for over $100, so lets not let the sale price devalue the true nature of the instrument!

Members Clyde42
I was thinking of popping in some Gibson buckers I have from out of my '90 Lp Std., adding graphite nut, possibly some locking Gotoh gears, and perhaps a better trem. Hmmmm. I get parts at wholesale, but this is getting to be less cheap....might get up to $200:D

Absolutely no problems from rondo. The neck on the fat was just way cheap compared to the sx tele I had. Here is a pic of the back of the neck on the tele. The sx fat had a few frets so loose you could take your fingernail and pull them out by hand. I say give it a shot, if they send you a dud you can return it on there dime. Members Clyde42
Nice looking neck jrfan. A friend of mine in AU built a Tele with an SX neck(refretted), generic Korean body, WSC pickups, and Gotoh hardware. It smoked. He sold some SX Strats with necks like yours, and they seemed cool for cheapies. I was suprised to see how much buzz there is on this board about SX when I came back to the states and started lurking here, had no idea they even sold them here. Members blinz
As with any brand, some models are better than others I guess. I've got an SX bass and 2 Agile guitars and I love them all. I was really thinking about that $69 strat. If was a nice as my bass, I'd be very happy, but if not I'll give it to my 5 year old. I just like these guitars because I can gig with them and not worry about something happening to them. My 73 Les Paul Custom was my main gigging guitar for years but I always felt like I needed to constantly keep an eye on it. I've got the Agile 2300 Jr which, in stock form, is a great guitar. Last week, I just received my AL2000 which I'm putting Kent Armstrong pickups in along with push-pull pots for coil splitting and Sperzel locking tuners. The stock pickups and tuners were fine and it plays great, but I'm setting it up to be my main player so I prefer the Sperzel tuners and I wanted the versatility of coil-splitting, etc which necesitated the pickup change. Bottom end price does not always mean bottom end quality. Sometimes it does, but not always. I may still buy one of those strats just for kicks. If not, I'll probably grab an SX tele. Members Twangster
For $69.00 what the heck! The truss rod was put in from the top and covered by the rosewood, no need for a skunk stripe.
