Members gibson185
Many feel the oil finish sounds better, more natural. But, oil finish requires more care than a poly finish. Me, I like nitro.
Members PB Wilson
Many "oil" finishes aren't oil, but an oil/varnish blend. You can approximate some of the oil finishes on the market by thinning regular old varnish so that you can wipe it. If you take something like Tru-Oil and keep adding layer after layer, it will build to a somewhat hard coat.

Members guitarcapo
Oil doesn't protect enough and takes too long to dry...Yea i know Stradivarius used it but he added a lot of other ingrediants like Silicate ground, albumen, and mordants. Personally I don't think you can beat shellac spirit varnish for durability, sound, longevity, feel, and appearence.
