guitar pickups suggestion?

I'd be a little worried about the evo. The tone guides show that one as having a bit of a mid range spike. I think I read somewhere where people were having some trouble with harshness on that pup.

What about the Satriani combo?

PAF Joe and Fred

If you want more in the butt your could go

Air Zone and Tone Zone.

I have that combo in a Custom Tele and it rocks and sounds great clean.

My next mod is on a Steingerger, pups are in, but I'm going to take it to a Luthier for install and tapping.

DiMarzion Virtual PAF (N), VirtuAL 2 neck (M), Tone Zone (B).

I going for warmth and kick ass from the bridge (paddle maple body) and then 3-D PAF tone in the neck. (Middle was a DiMarzio tech recommendation).

I have no opinions of the SD Distortion.

You could try the evo 2 in the bridge. Its supposed to be a little less hot than the evo, and was made to give good clean sounds with the volume turned down. And since vai uses it it will probably give you the sound you're looking for.

I'd try the evo 2 bridge matched with the paf pro neck.

I'm sure you will be satisfied.

Ok try this.

I strongly recomend BAREKNUCKLE pickups.

check their website

http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/

(yes they are in England but they'll post em)

Best rock pickups on the face of the planet (No joke) and no I dont work for them.

the 'Nailbomb' set has a very fluid / organic tone.

or the 'Mirical Man' set is a bit more sort of 'Tone Zone' shred.

the Nailbomb set cuts it alot better clean though.

check the reviews here these thing are good.

also there are alot of clips in the forum on their website.

Ron uses duncans and vai uses dimarzios.

YOu arent going to find a pickup that is a cross between ron and steve. Dimarzios and Duncans dont sound alike in the slightest. There is no "cross" between...but some will probably pretened there is a "cross" between and recommend some bizarre pickup and steer you wrong.

Its an either or proposition.

Who do you like more? Ron or Steve?

Then buy the pickup used by your answer to that question.

Ron uses a Duncan distortion. That would be my choice cause I don't really like dimarzios. (except the chopper)
