Members BloodyScalpel
I do it like this: I put the strings inside the hole and give a complete turn on the tuner to lock it in place. Then I hold the string while tuning to pitch
Members Wyatt
Measure and cut the string out two tuning posts past the one you are stringing. For example, if you are stringing the A, pull the string out to the D tuning post and trim it there. Obviously, you have to estimate the B and high E. Then insert the string down the hole in the middle of the tuning shaft. Bend it back out over one of the slots in the top of the tuning peg. Like BloodyScaple, I too usually wrap the string around the peg once at this point. I at least wrap it around more than 1/2 way. Then I hold the string down by the nut to keep tension on it at the tuning peg and start winding. Once the the slack is wind up on the string, I can let go at the nut and winding it up to pitch. Then stretch and retune. -Y.
