Members tommy_is_here
Hi folks, I have a casino with SD humbuckers (it sounds great!) I have noticed a weird buzzing coming from somewhere underneath the pickups. Its like something inside the hollow cavity is vibrating when I play certain frequencies. It is definitely NOT fretbuzz, as the noise goes away when I play the same note, but the guitar is vertically aligned. Any ideas on how I can fix this, or what this may be? The noise is not amplified when I am plugged in. Thanks!-Tommy
Members Bucker
It could be the bracing on the inside of the top vibrating against the top when certain notes are played. I don't know what you can do about it. Why does it matter?
Members RomanS
Yeah, I notice the same thing on my Artcore hollowbody, when playing double-stops on certain regions of the neck (mostly from the 5th fret up, and on the B and G strings) - almost sounds like distortion - but it is only noticeable when playing unplugged, doesn't have any effect on the amplified sound. Probably certain frequencies are stimulating parts of the body to resonate...?
Members OrvilleGibson
Make sure everything is tightened, including the switches, pots, jacks, etc.
Members id-man
It could also be a wire touching the vibrating wood. If you could pinpoint where it originates, a well-placed wad of tissue or sponge should isolate it (or just bend it out of the way). Got access to a stethoscope? Members javaCat
To what Bucker said: I had that happen to my ovation, very sad. Sucks cause I had to return and it took me like a few days of really really looking into it and researching, a lot of time. Try pressing, gently against the top near where the sound is being generated, if it squeaks when you do this then its a brace and youll have to have it repaired or return it. To what id-man said: The wires really are the most likely thing so just feel around through the f-holes and make sure that wires arent touching or near the walls. Good luck man, its hard to diagnose these things.
Members trinilopez
on both of my hollowbodies its the pickup selector switch that causes the most buzzing (in center position). i think having the switch mounted on the vibrating thin top of a hollow body makes it especially vulnerable. Members Treborklow
Try checking the bottom screw things that mount the bridge to the body. When they loosen up the vibration sounds like it's coming from within.
