wiring SC to HB with no tone controls...hum?

for my lapsteel that im currently building i want to wire in an alnico pro II single coil and a jazz or similar HB.

 

 

im thinking of wiring them each to a seperate volume knob then straight to the jack. this way i could just use the volumes to blend them or turn 1 off. its for a laspteel so im not worried about it being bright without tone controls, if it is ill throw an EQ in the mix-

 

 

but my question is will there be any negatives to wiring it up like this?

 

 

i plan to assemble the lapsteel (done with main shape, but im going a very simple route) - and string it up and pluck/listen for the harmonic areas to place the pickups. i know the SC will be close to the TOM bridge, id like to move the HB further up the neck to some sweet spots.
