I got my new Epiphone Casino today with case and am really impressed with this guitar. This is the highest build quality I have seen come from Korea. The build quality and fretwork is actually better than most Gibsons I have played lately. I have been having a lot of fun playing on this as it is my first hollowbody guitar and there is nothing like P90 pickups in a hollowbody. I really am gld that I did not get the Elitist model as I can not really see it being worth the extra cash for me. I am happy as hell with my purchase.
:D

Very nice --- congrats :thu:

Yeah, and the older import Casinos had Grover-style tuners, not these itty-bitty Kluson-style.

I gues Epi is making the standard import line look more like the Elitist or USA, maybe.

I sold my Korean-made Casino recently in order to buy my Telecaster, which suits my style better. But the Casino was awesome; fit and finish were flawless, sweet sweet neck. I had a Bigsby installed, along with some Lindy Fralin P90s, and it kicked ass. I liked the color (turquoise) when I got it, but grew to hate it... Let's see if I can find a photo...

One thing I would recommend is get those pickups swapped out. I wasn't too impressed with the stock Korean ones, I had mine rewound and wax potted by bareknuckle. If you don't wanna go the whole hog at least get them potted, it really does make a huge difference.

The pickups in mine are potted. It says they are on the sticker that comes on them and more importantly it is very obvious that they are when I am playing it.

As far as tone of the pickups I am totally satisfied as of now. They are sounding great.

Mine said they were potted on the sticker, so I was a bit disappointed to find that this wasn't the case.

If you're happy with the sound, nice one! :)

Any idea when your casino was made? Mine's from november 05...just curious.

Mine was made 3-3-06

It is very weird that your pickups were not potted. I was adjusting the pole pieces today on the neck pickup and they were waxy just as they should be on a potted pickup.

Great guitar! Mine (MIK) looked just like it, same tuners, colours, wood apperance, etc. Beautiful wood-work on mine. I love the grain of the mahogany neck under the transparent polymer.

How far can you throw the white pick-guard?

My electrical components never failed, going on 3 years. I swapped out one scratchy tone pot when I put in push-pulls for my in/out phase and series/parallel wiring. The wiring and soldering wasn't the tidiest, even before I got in there. Now? Don't ask.

The glue inside mine was a little gloppy. My knobs were too small for the factory split-shaft pots, so someone had squeezed each split together (with pliers I suppose) and forced the knobs on. Un-cool.

The tuners are going strong still. The Tune-a-matic bridge can buzz a little if you restring and don't pay attention to where the saddles sit. I press on the string behind the saddle a little while dialing up tension (so the saddle moves towards the neck); haven't had the problem since.

Someone up the page mentioned that their semi-hollow Ibanez sounds very similar. Respectfully (I have Ibanez semis and hollows) it doesn't.

Reviews sometimes bitch that the Casino isn't very versatile. Mine seems incredibly versatile (especially after the rewiring) except that you can't turn the volume right up and stand in front of the amp (well you can if you damp the A-string). I think the Casino (and prolly the Epi Sorrento and similar things like the old P90 ES175) is some kind of gold-standard for tone. You don't get that bright and (when the P90s are pushing the amp) slightly gritty tone from everything.
