Members LordBTY
I'm wanting to duck a synth coming from NI Massive using a kick. I'm fine with doing this to audio but I have no idea how I'd go about doing it with a VSTi... help, please? :/
Members nerol1st
What version of cubase? Anyhow it's simple. The VSTi has an actual audio Chanel out. If it doesn't show up in your edit window it will be in the mixer window. Throw the comp in the insert of the VSTi output channel, turn on sidechain and then send some audio from your kick track to that comp.
Members LordBTY
Cubase sidechaining doesn't work like that, you have to set up a quadro group.
Members nerol1st
Yeah I just tried it though. Are you using C5?
Members LordBTY
I'm not SX3... Does it work easily on 5?
Members nerol1st
Oh, yeah no idea how to do it in SX3. But yeah they integrated side chaining in C5 and studio 5 to be super simple. Basically how I described it. The plugs now have an extra button (side chain) and when you turn it out it shows up as an output bus in the sends/outputs options. Members Laurend
This can be done with FLUX plugins which allow to select which channel feeds the sidechain. 1 Route the VSTi to be ducked on a multichannel buss (channels 1 and 2)2 Route the command signal on this buss (channel 3)3 Insert the plugin on this buss4 Select "External" for sidechain in the plugin and select which channel is the audio source for sidechain (channel 3)5 Route channels 1 & 2 on your stereo master section. That's done.
Members nerol1st
It amazes me that Stienberg took so long (version 4) to implement simple side chain into their program.
Members LordBTY
Thank you, guys Time to finally update, me thinks. With SX3 you have download a special vst and place it in a group that receives quadro panning - both signals coming from the top and the bottom. Members nerol1st
Yeah they just stuck a new button on the stock plugs in the new version. Plus the plugs are nicer, plus VST3 is awsome, plus there are a lot more plugs than there used to be. The upgrade is worth it.
