Members Suspicious Mail
This is another one of my dumb "future reference"- type threads. But does anybody know current/ recent Fender strat models that have the big swimming pool route? The guys at the music store look at me funny when I say I don't want to buy the thing, just look under the pickguard.
Members TomCTC
The majority of American series Strats are routed for H-S-H.
Members grimr
My old American Series had the swimming pool route. My new American Standard has a 3 humbucker route. not much diff really.
Members Josh S
When you go to buy one, just tap on the pickguard. You'll hear it, big time. That being said, my best sounding strat is an '89 Am std, and you bet it's a swimming pool.

Just a guess but..... up around the late 90's on all NON-vintage RI types (made in usa models). After that they had the H-S-H route which really isnt a hell of a lot dif from the pool route. They also used Pop' wood on many USA strats from the early-mid 90's. The sunbursts for example had a alder veneer over pop'. You can tell by looking at the back of the body. If the rear contour is all black then it's a veneer.
