Members Burgess
Defects?Just make sure all the pickups and switching works properly. Don't go overboard with looking for defects on that guitar. It's not a Private Reserve PRS, it's just a starter pack. Actually looks like a quite nice starter pack but the thinking here is you buy this to learn how to play and in the course of doing that you will know what your requirements will be when you go out and get a nicer axe. You can go out and buy a premium guitar of the highest quality but if it doesn't suit your needs, it's not going to work for you. That's what the starter pack is for. Gets you started at a reasonable price so you can learn to play and find out what it is you really want. You can't know what you really want (or I should say need) until you've learned to play a bit. Just take that axe to somebody that can set it up for you and don't sweat the small stuff. Most of the defects you read about around here is small stuff. A guitar with no inlay filler will not make you play any better.

Members 's mel gibson
Plug it in, turn it on and see if everything works. Hit a chord and go through the pick up selector with all the volumes and tone controls up to 10. Do all the p'ups work? Then, with each individual p'up selected with the toggle switch, hit a chord and twist the volume knob to see that it works and does so in a quiet manner. (no scratching noises when being twisted) Same for the tone control. Try every knob on your amp as well. Treat your patch cords gently. Don't wrap them too tight or you'll short them out and make garbage out of them.
Members Noak
Try the guitar plugged in and use all the positions of the pickup selector. Check the volume and tone controls to see how and if they work.
