Members spokenward
I recently bought a Mac Mini for a number of reasons. It helps with client compatibility and testing. I have a question. I wanted to run md5sums on files for verification. This is part of the GNU coreutils package. Where do I find a Mac binary, or do I have to compile it? thanks! Members spokenward
thanks, I also learned that while OS X does not have 'md5sum' (GNU), it does have 'md5' (RSA).
Members deanmass
So I understand what MD5 does, but can give me an example of why I would want to use it or a specific application?

Members spokenward
and to match files that have been moved or written to removeable storage. An archival project that I work on has a vendor that dubs originals from analog tape. If I find a glitch in that process I can say with certainty that the file that I am working on is the same as it left the dubbing vendor if I can match the md5sum.
