Members FFStratophile
At this point the only possible giveaway would be sloppy and very shallow cutaways, loose neck pocket, that kind of stuff...

Members flyby
Hey guys not All '73s are bad..I've got one that just happens to sound good, has a tight non-shifty neck pocket(probably why I never got around to easily converting to a 4 bolt) also doesn't have shallow-sloppy cutaways or contours and doesn't weigh noticeably more than several other MIAs I've had (or played for that matter). While its sentimental to me(first strat ever aquired in'78) every experienced player whose tried it was surprised it sounded so good because they heard so many bad things about strats from that time. Maybe I just got lucky ..but mines fine(even with 3 bolts .

Members 's mel gibson
3 or 4 bolt neck? The 3 bolt body would be maybe the only real clue it was from the 70's. I wonder what years of the 70's did the 3 bolt pattern exist?
