Members DaveAronow
Bolivian Rosewood (smooth highs, warm mids) Oregon Myrtle (very bright with laser beam highs) Lacewood (very much like mahogany, maybe a little warmer in the high end) Redwood (lots of acoustic content, tremendous sparkle, mediocre sustain) Bubinga (a bit like maple, but not as bright. Strong, warm mids) Limba (In the mahogany camp but with some wonderful high end sparkle) Shedua (AKA Ovangkol) (similar to Limba but even more agressive) God I LOVE the figured redwood guitars. I am just starting a project TODAY and its not redwood, but the very next one will be. I hope Jim Soloway and all the other great luthiers on this site wont get to tired of my pesky questions, but get ready, cause theyre a common!! Members nothingstock
Yes, I know that different tonewoods make a difference in the sound of the guitars. Thankfully I can save a lot of $ because my hearing is so destroyed by years of crunching power chords that I can't tell anymore. My #1 guitar is a squier tele with a wood core face front and back with wood-grained plastic. I even did the Krylon-burst finish myself since it had nothing on the plastic when I bought it. the tricky part was finding a set of pickups that could fight thier way through the plastic and actually sound good. Members mcinku
This is not that exotic but it's still special... This piece of walnut is 30 years old, it was sitting on shelf waiting 30 years until I came along... The guitar has a maple top so only back is visible.
