Members fantasticsound
On Tuesday night, master mandolin luthier Charlie Derrington was killed on Briley Parkway by a drunk driver on the wrong side of the highway, on a stretch of road I drive every morning with Lilly. He was the GM and master builder at Gibson's OAI factory in Opry Mills Mall. For details, click here. Here's a picture of Charlie presenting "The Earl" to Earl Scruggs at the Country Music Hall Of Fame party for Earl's 80th birthday, Although I wasn't a personal friend of Charlie's, I'd met him several times at OAI. He was a wonderful guy and the craftsman at a factory full of talented builders. He will be missed by many in this town, by Gibson employees and bluegrass musicians the world over. Members Alndln2
What a sad ending for what was an obviously talented guy. Talent or not, nobody deserves to get their life wiped out in such a sensless manner. R.I.P.
Members fantasticsound
I just got word from a friend who manages the Gibson Showcase that a memorial will be held at Pettus, Owen & Wood, 4506 Charlotte Ave in Nashville. As the address suggests, it's on Charlotte at the 46th Ave. exit. They will open it up at 3:30pm with a service to follow at 5:30pm.
